About TNPSC GROUP II

TNPSC (Tamil Nadu Public Service Commission) formed in 1923 as the successor of Madras Service Commission as a constitutional body responsible for conducting various exams for recruitment for various posts intoTamil Nadu government. TNPSC deals with all the procedures and protocols regarding the mode of conduct of exam, appointment etc., TNPSC notifications for the successive calendar year is usually published in the official website as well as through other official modes, enabling the aspirants to prepare accordingly. The recruitment process takes place on annual basis.

The exams are conducted in various groups like Group I, Group II, Group II A, Group IV etc. Certain groups have only written and screening for final selection. Certain groups have three level screening i.e. Preliminary, Main and Interview. The preliminary Examination is of qualifying in nature. However the marks obtained by them in the preliminary examination will be an entry ticket to the Main examination and the marks obtained at the preliminary will not be taken into account for the final merit list. Applied candidates are also provided with needed information from time to time.

The detail syllabus for TNPSC exams are published in the official website. The syllabus comprises subjects like General Tamil, General English, General Studies and Mental ability. The level of the questions asked varies from SSLC standard to Post Graduate standard depending upon the requirement of the post.

TNPSC Group 2 Eligibility Details: To apply for Group 2(CCSE-II) must satisfy the below given eligibility criteria. The following are the eligibility details...

I. Educational Qualification:

Candidates who are appearing for TNPSC Group II must have a Degree from any recognized University / Institutions.

Note: (i) The qualification prescribed for these posts should have been obtained by passing the required qualification in the order of studies

10 + 3 years Diploma + 3 years degree,

11 + 2 years (Teacher Training) + 3 years degree,

10 + 2 years (ITI) + 3 years degree,

10 + 3 years diploma + 2 years degree (lateral entry) are equivalent to 10+ 2 years (HSC) + 3 years degree for the purpose of entry into public services.

(ii)Persons claiming equivalence of qualification should upload evidence for such claim when called for by TNPSC, failing which their application will be summarily rejected.

Knowledge of Tamil:

Candidates should possess adequate knowledge of Tamil.

TNPSC GROUP II Selection Process

TNPSC Group 2 Selection Procedure Details:

Tamil Nadu Public Service Commission - TNPSC conducts Group 2 (Combined Subordinate Service Examination-I) Examination for the recruitment of various vacancies in Tamil Nadu State Government Departments. Candidates who possess any degree are eligible to apply for the Group 2 (CSSE-I) examination. Following are the selection procedure details-

I.Selection Procedure:

The selection of candidates for appointment to the interview or non interview posts included in the Group 2 (CSSE-I) Examination will be made in two successive stages. For Interview Posts: (i) Preliminary Examination, (ii) Written Examination, (iii) Oral Test (Interview), (iv) Final Selection

(i) Preliminary Examination:

  • 1. The Preliminary examination is of Objective Type, which consists General Knowledge, General English, General Tamil.
  • 2. Two Types of Question Papers will be set. One is general Knowledge with General Tamil and another one is General Knowledge with General English.
  • 3. The question paper will be framed in such a way that 100 questions will be on General Knowledge & remaining 100 questions will be either in General English or General Tamil.
  • 4. The questions on General Knowledge will be set both in English and in Tamil and it is of Degree standard, the questions on General Tamil/General English will be set in the respective languages and it is of SSLC standard.
  • 5. Time duration is 3 hours and maximum marks are 300 (Both Written Exam & Oral Test).
  • 6. Minimum qualifying marks for selection for written cum oral test is 102 and for only written test is 90 marks.

(ii) Written Examination:

  • 1. The written examination is of Objective Type, which consists General Knowledge, General English, General Tamil.
  • 2. Two Types of Question Papers will be set. One is general Knowledge with General Tamil and another one is General Knowledge with General English.
  • 3. The question paper will be framed in such a way that 100 questions will be on General Knowledge & remaining 100 questions will be either in General English or General Tamil.
  • 4. The questions on General Knowledge will be set both in English and in Tamil and it is of Degree standard, the questions on General Tamil/General English will be set in the respective languages and it is of SSLC standard.
  • 5. Time duration is 3 hours and maximum marks are 340 (Both Written Exam & Oral Test).
  • 6. Minimum qualifying marks for selection for written cum oral test is 102 and for only written test is 102 marks.

(iii) Oral Test (Interview):

Candidates who are qualified in the written examination will be admitted for oral test. Maximum Marks for oral test is 40.

(iv) Final Selection:

The Final selection will be made on the basis of the total marks obtained by the candidates at the Written Examination and Oral Test taken together and the post option exercised by the candidates and by following the rule of reservation of appointments separately for each post and unit.

Candidate-s appearance in the Written Examination and for Oral Test is compulsory so as to consider them for Interview Posts. The candidates who are to be considered only for non-interview post, will be summoned for certificate verification after the conduct of oral test.

TNPSC Group 2 Exam Pattern Details:Tamil Nadu Public Service Commission (TNPSC) conducts Combined Civil Service Examination-I (Interview Posts) (Group-II Services). Candidates who possess eligibility to apply for the examination can check the Exam Pattern details given below-

Candidates are given the option to choose either General Tamil or General English for answering the second 100 items apart from answering the first (75+25)100 items on General Studies.

ii. The questions on General Studies will be set both in English and Tamil and the questions on General Tamil/ General English will be set in the respective languages.

  • The candidates are allowed to answer the questions either fully in Tamil or fully in English.
